We are very proud of our work in the financial education sector, and are delighted to see a key ask of our client, financial education charity The Centre for Financial Capability, included in the Government’s response to the Dormant Assets consultation. We worked with the Centre to produce a response to the consultation recommending that financial education be supported through the Dormant Assets Scheme in the future.

Today, the Government has confirmed that it will be exploring how financial education and capability can be supported through the scheme. Additionally, we are proud to see the industry roundtable we organised, in September 2022, referred to in the Government’s response.

We were delighted to support our client The Centre for Financial Capability to welcome the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP to Alverton Community Primary School in his Richmond (Yorks) constituency to see the exciting KickStart Money programme, delivered by MyBnk, in action! He gave a short introduction to HM Treasury and explained his role as Chancellor of the Exchequer as well as taking a few questions from the class. The Chancellor then joined in as the Year 6 class learnt about saving money, bank accounts and interest rates.

In the lesson, the pupils got to grips with the importance of building positive money habits as soon as they could to help build stronger savings habits for the future. They tackled key financial concepts, such as interest rates and risks and learnt about the importance of setting savings goals and the role of bank accounts.

The visit took place during #globalmoneyweek2022, a global awareness raising campaign aimed at improving the financial capability of the next generation.

We are delighted to announce that just one year since we launched the Stop Sea Blasts campaign, the UK Government has updated its policy guidance to state that clearances of old munitions on the seabed should take place using quiet, environmentally friendly disposal techniques.

This follows several months of campaigning with actress and activist Joanna Lumley, with the support of EODEX UK LTD, Marine Connection, Whale and Dolphin Conservation and World Cetacean Alliance, to highlight that loud and disruptive explosions cause needless harm to marine life.

We are so pleased to see the Government finally take action and were thrilled to mark the success of our campaign with an event yesterday in Westminster, attended by over fifty parliamentarians, Environment Minister Rebecca Pow MP and Environment Secretary George Eustice MP

Over 120,000 members of the public supported our campaign on change.org and we were delighted to deliver this petition, with a letter of thanks, to the Prime Minister. The Stop Sea Blasts campaign received coverage on Sky News, ITV, BBC News, GB News, The Telegraph, The Express and a number of regional publications.

We are delighted to have supported the launch of a new charity, The Centre for Financial Capability today alongside our client KickStart Money. Early intervention financial education is a crucial tool for navigating financial decisions in later life.

Every child in the UK should be supported to develop the skills and behaviours necessary to navigate critical financial decisions in later life, starting at primary school. That mission is the driving force behind the launch of The Centre for Financial Capability.

The charity has been founded by the backers of the KickStart Money initiative, a ground-breaking coalition of 20 financial services firms who invested over £1 million to reach over 20,000 primary aged children with expert-led financial education for the first time.

2 out of 3 primary aged children who took part in the programme were working towards a savings goal after receiving lessons. This is nearly double the national average.

The new charity will continue to invest in financial education delivery but also champion innovation, build further evidence of what works and campaign for greater investment in this critical area.

Last week, as a part of our ongoing work for the Safe Homes for Women Leaving Prison initiative, we organised a virtual parliamentary ‘drop-in’ event which was attended by over 50 parliamentarians to draw attention to the crisis of up to 6 in 10 women released from prison being condemned to homelessness.

Parliamentarians, including the Minister for Prisons and Probation Alex Chalk MP heard direct testimony from women with lived experience of this crisis on the urgent need for Government action to prevent thousands of vulnerable women being released from prison to homelessness each year and being set up to fail.

We are tremendously proud to support the Catch Up With Cancer campaign and Action Radiotherapy. The fantastic World Cancer Day virtual parliamentary drop-in event had over 50 attendees supporting the campaign’s push for investment in cancer service.

It was great to see so many MPs talking about the lifesaving interventions needed to tackle the COVID induced cancer backlog including the APPG for Radiotherapy’s six point plan for a digital revolution in radiotherapy.

A campaign led by UK actress Joanna Lumley and supported by Marine Connection is demanding offshore wind farm developers stop blowing up old war bombs that are lurking in British waters and devastating whales and dolphins.

We are calling for the bombs to be burned out rather than detonated – a low order deflagration uses a small charge to cause the explosive contents to ignite and burn out which is much safer for marine life. There are believed to be about 100,000 tonnes of explosives left in Britain’s seas, with some wartime relics weighing up to half a tonne.

Before wind farms can be built these bombs must be cleared from the sea bed, however, detonating them can have a huge impact on cetaceans and their hearing/navigational abilities.  In 2011, a mass stranding of long-finned pilot whales occurred in Scotland and a subsequent Government report concluded that four large bombs detonated at sea by the Royal Navy were to blame for the stranding and death of 19 of these whales.

We are delighted to have worked with key industry bodies including Airport Operators Association, Airlines UK and International Air Transport Association (IATA) and a cross party group of MPs led by Henry Smith MP to create the Future of Aviation Group to campaign for greater support for the aviation industry.

The group launched today with over 40 MPs supporters including former Transport Secretary Chris Grayling MP and former Aviation Minister Paul Maynard MP. This was covered in the Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Sun, Metro, Sky News and on a number of BBC outlets.
