Brompton Bicycle

Government Relations and Public affairs

The Challenge

We were hired by leading UK bike manufacturer Brompton Bicycle to help build their public affairs presence in the UK and to place them at the heart of the debate on net zero and active travel, with the main aim being to demonstrate the benefits of a multi-modal approach to transport.

Our Strategy

We created Brompton’s first ever public affairs programme, putting in place an engagement plan that included devising key asks, identifying key stakeholders and an events programme that leveraged their world leading factory in West London.

Our work has included leading on all policy consultations, parliamentary meetings, securing speaking slots, political monitoring, outreach events and regularly briefing the CEO and Chair on key issues.

The Results

Through our events outreach programme, we hosted visit days* attended by a number of MPs including Cabinet Minister Victoria Atkins MP, Active Travel Minister Jesse Norman MP, Shadow Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood MP (now Local Transport Minister), Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor for Business Howard Dawber and influential backbench parliamentarians including Fabian Hamilton MP, Flick Drummond MP and Simon Fell MP. We are also currently in the early stages of arranging a visit day for new MPs.

Through all of these meetings, we ensured that there were key outputs. From discussions with civil servants on apprenticeships policy, to supporting Labour’s pre-election policy formulation, to securing supportive parliamentary interventions and letters.

Crucially, Brompton is now recognised across the political divide as one of the leading and go-to voices on active travel.
