Tendo hosts a webinar on ‘How can the UK meet its 2030 decarbonisation target?’

Tendo recently hosted a webinar on ‘How can the UK meet its 2030 decarbonisation target?’ It was great to have so many members of the energy industry engaged!

Our panellists, included industry experts and policy makers, highlighted the immensity of the challenge facing the UK in fulfilling this mission, whilst echoing the National Energy System Operator’s report that this target is indeed achievable but only if critical measures are taken at pace.

Key takeaways include:

  • Overhauling the planning system is essential to facilitate the rapid expansion of energy infrastructure required to meet the 2030 target.
  • While there is general support for the energy transition and self-sufficiency among the public, consumers will prioritise lower prices above all – and it will take time to deliver these benefits.
  • Reforming the fixed energy price mechanism to allow flexible local pricing could help secure local buy-in for energy infrastructure by lowering prices in areas of renewable energy production. Reforms might also boost innovation and incentivise the significant private investment required to meet the target.

We are incredibly grateful to our esteemed panel, Bill Esterson MP, Lord Callanan, Clementine Cowton (Octopus Energy) and Patrick Geddis (Labour Climate and Environment Forum) for joining us and providing such exceptional contributions on this vital issue.

Many thanks also to our partners in the United Government Affairs network for supporting us to put on such a successful, pan-European event!
